El edificio CE80 está diseñado siguiendo el esquema tradicional de las vecindades abundantes en la zona de la Santa Maria la Ribera.

El edificio de 24 departamentos contiene cuatro tipos de unidades organizados en dos cuerpos; uno largo hacia la calle de Hortensia con cuatro departamentos de 85 m² en la esquina urbana del edificio y departamentos de dos niveles en el resto del bloque.

Los departamentos en torno al patio del 1er nivel suben a las recámaras en el 2º y los departamentos del 4º nivel bajan a las recámaras en el 3º. Esta condición permite que todos los departamentos cuenten con iluminación y ventilación cruzada hacia el frente y al patio posterior del edificio.

En el cuerpo frente a la calle de Cedro sobre el vestíbulo el conjunto tiene dos departamentos de dos niveles y cuatro departamentos adicionales de 70 m² en la torre trasera con vista frontal al patio del conjunto.

La estructura, formada por cartelas de concreto de 1.10 x 2.44 , genera una retícula de marcos con muros de carga de block hueco de concreto color gris obscuro. 


La materialidad del proyecto, conformada principalmente por una estructura expuesta que no tiene necesidad de recubrimientos, facilita la legibilidad de la organización del edificio en términos espaciales y estructurales.

ESTRUCTURA MATERIAL

El edificio CA69 está conformado por una estructura compacta que explora el uso racional de materiales y el potencial de relaciones entre interior y exterior. El edificio, situado en una zona de manufactura y vivienda obrera de la Ciudad de México, hace referencia al contexto por medio de una estructura expuesta y materiales sin recubrimiento similares a las retículas industriales de la avenida Camarones en la zona de Azcapotzalco.

La estructura, escalonada con respecto al borde trapezoidal del predio, está formada por cartelas de concreto de 1.10 x 2.44 a cada 4.30 metros, generando una retícula de marcos con muros de carga de block hueco de concreto color gris obscuro. La materialidad del proyecto, conformada principalmente por la estructura expuesta sin necesidad de recubrimientos, permite una legibilidad de la organización del edificio en términos espaciales y estructurales.

La paleta de acabados en el proyecto se definió en combinación con la austeridad exterior del edificio, complementando el concreto aparente y block de concreto con cancelería y herrería en gris obscuro. En los interiores se optó por una estética de simplicidad material con un uso de colores limitado y las texturas lisas de un porcelanato cerámico gris claro en las áreas sociales, mientras que se aplicaron recubrimientos de madera en closets y recámaras. La cocina complementa la paleta con una cubierta de granito gris oxford, gabinetes inferiores blancos al alto brillo y chapa de madera en gabinetes superiores.

Ésta estructura, abierta hacia el poniente y cerrada hacia el sur, permite tres condiciones: la vista protegida hacia el camellón arbolado, ventilación e iluminación adicional por medio de troneras laterales y una fachada ciega contraria al flujo de los automóviles que protege del ruido y la luminosidad nocturna de la avenida.

El edificio de 14 departamentos contiene tres diferentes tipos de unidades que se organizan en torno a un núcleo de circulaciones mínimo para ampliar las áreas habitables; dos en la planta baja de 82-92 m² con terraza frontal y jardín posterior, cuatro de 65 m² en cada nivel en la esquina sur del edificio y ocho departamentos de dos niveles y área de 79-93 m² en el 2º y 5º nivel. Estos departamentos siguen un esquema alterno donde los del 2º nivel suben a las recámaras en el 3º y los del 5º nivel bajan a las recámaras en el 4º. Esta estrategia permite que todos los departamentos cuenten con iluminación y ventilación cruzada hacia el frente y al patio posterior del edificio.

El proyecto se conforma como una alternativa de desarrollo para la Ciudad de México con edificios compactos cercanos a infraestructuras urbanas, centros de trabajo y educación; permitiendo transitar de una ciudad de predios de pocos niveles y baja ocupación a zonas con una densidad mayor pero que mantienen una escala humana.

CASA AC
CONTENCIÓN.

La casa AC explora la idea de contención y simplicidad por medio del uso racional de elementos, materiales y relaciones interior-exterior.

Arquitectónicamente la casa AC se organiza a partir de los potenciales y limitantes que ofrece el sitio de su emplazamiento. Localizada en una privada, dentro de un conjunto residencial, en el poniente de la Ciudad de México, cuenta con un contexto de edificaciones similares en su volumen y organización debido a las regulaciones internas del conjunto. 

Sin embargo las casas circundantes ofrecen un relación limitada y de separación para con el exterior, espacios internos fragmentados y un excesivo y ostentoso uso de materiales.

La casa AC ofrece una alternativa a esta condición por medio de espacios que exploran una relación estrecha con el exterior. A partir de la idea de contención se ubicó un patio al centro del proyecto, de tal manera que la casa puede vivirse en completa apertura hacia el exterior, sin perder privacía dentro del conjunto.

Espacial y estructuralmente la casa se organiza a partir de ocho cartelas de concreto aparente que forman cuatro grapas que libran los claros de los espacios principales. La casa se organiza en un esquema de doble simetría en torno a la contención de un patio central, permitiendo una relación continua entre espacios internos y externos. La simplicidad estructural se mantiene expuesta y expresada en los materiales y elementos constructivos. La circulación entre los diferentes niveles se organiza por medio de un recorrido espiral en torno del patio central.

Materialmente la casa explora el potencial de contención y simplicidad por medio de cuatro materiales. El concreto expuesto y encofrado en paneles de 2.44 x 1.20 forma la estructura y define las dimensiones de los espacios. Las placas de granito gris obscuro fueron cortadas en piezas cuadradas de 1.20 para el pavimento. La cancelería de aluminio gris obscuro del patio central forma una matriz, relacionando concreto y granito como elementos primordiales en la experiencia espacial de la casa. Los pavimentos de madera y la carpintería están formadas por duelas verticales de nogal generando el fondo visual en algunos espacios de la casa.

La casa se relaciona dinámicamente con el exterior permitiendo una luz filtrada y privacía por medio de dos celosías móviles, una de nogal en la planta baja y una en planta alta para la cual se utilizó el desperdicio del corte de las placas de granito.

En su relación hacia el exterior, la casa expresa tanto la idea de contención material, como la de contención espacial por medio de dos celosías que permiten establecer una relación filtrada entre interior y exterior, al tiempo que permiten diferentes cualidades de iluminación natural, artificial y visuales entre el espacio contenido y el sitio donde se asienta.

El diseño del paisaje es fundamental en la concepción y configuración de la casa AC. La idea principal de la casa es vivir hacia los espacios exteriores por lo que el proyecto partió de conformar diferentes experiencias. Los jardines frontales en la fachada se diseñaron a partir de dos conceptos.  A la izquierda, un campo de pennisetum verde y rojo con un par de ciruelos, y a la derecha, un jardín con un sauce y plantas culinarias de clima semi árido con bajo mantenimiento, pero que permite tener una experiencia olfativa al entrar a la casa.

Al centro del terreno se planeó un espacio húmedo, fresco con helechos, hojas elegantes, piñanonas, y  rododendros, que permitirán, a largo plazo, contar con un espacio interno que sorprende y permite a la casa vivir en estrecha relación con su exterior. Las 4 diferentes acacias ahí plantadas ofrecen colores y cambios temporales en la experiencia diaria y durante las diferentes estaciones.

Este patio central no solamente permite vivir la casa en completa apertura hacia el exterior, sin perder privacía dentro del conjunto, sino que se convierte en un elemento fundamental de iluminación y ventilación natural, reduciendo consumos de energía. Adicionalmente el patio está conformado por distintas especies de helechos, y rododendros que generan un pulmón de habitabilidad, produciendo oxigeno y absorbiendo químicos volátiles. Las cuatro acacias plantadas en el patio central crecerán hasta el punto de ofrecer sombra y protección de los asoleamientos al tiempo que permitirán vistas interesantes desde todos los niveles de la casa. 

El jardín posterior pensado desde la perspectiva de la vida familiar contiene plantas con mayor resistencia y color, como son el vitex, la nandina y los liquidámbares. 

En la fachadas principal y la posterior, en la que la casa interactúa con el entorno, se proponen celosías que permiten filtrar las vistas internas y externas, así como dotar de privacía a la casa. Las mismas celosías, siendo móviles en ambos niveles, permiten adaptarse y contener los asoleamientos internos en verano y amplificarlos en invierno, dado que corresponden al oriente y poniente del terreno.  Arquitectónicamente la luz filtrada se convierte en un quinto material que define la naturaleza de los espacios internos.

MATERIALIDAD
La casa se encuentra diseñada a partir de la austeridad al utilizar únicamente cuatro materiales con un alto grado de calidad y vida útil como son el concreto aparente, el granito en placas, la madera de nogal y el aluminio en la cancelería. 

La simplicidad material y la presencia arquitectónica de los elementos estructurales conforman un ambiente claro y contundente, donde es innecesario el uso de elementos decorativos.

Partimos de la idea que estos materiales, por su condición de austeridad y larga duración, permiten a la casa ser sostenible a largo plazo, sin necesidad de instalar sistemas y materiales complejos que requieran ser modificados o sustituidos en un futuro. 


SOLUCION ARQUITECTÓNICA 

La casa se organiza en tres niveles en las que se localizan; los espacios de servicio en el semi-sótano, los sociales en la planta baja y los privados en la planta alta. El sótano contiene tanto el estacionamiento como las habitaciones de servicio con un espacio de descanso. Ambos viven hacia el patio interior, permitiendo una alta calidad de vida.

La planta baja se organiza en dos bloques de doble simetría, con un comedor y una sala formal hacia el frente de la casa y un espacio familiar hacia el jardín posterior. Los espacios formales al frente de la casa filtran sus relaciones con la calle por medio de una celosía de madera, que permite dirigir las vistas internas hacia los jardines frontales. 

Del otro lado del patio central se encuentra una estancia familiar con un comedor y sala, que se pueden abrir totalmente hacia el jardín posterior permitiendo una relación muy estrecha con éste. La cocina se encuentra funcionalmente entre ambos espacios de la casa, el comedor formal frontal y el comedor en el espacio familiar. La cocina cuenta además con iluminación y ventilación por medio del patio central. Hacia el jardín posterior se encuentran también dos estudios con salida directa hacia el jardín.

La escalera principal en su forma excavada en concreto permite apreciar el patio central, por medio de un recorrido en espiral. En el nivel superior se accede a dos recamaras, por medio de un pasillo que contiene un muro-mueble en madera destinado al guardado de blancos y que incluye en un panel continuo las puertas de las recamaras. El mueble se separa de la estructura permitiendo expresar la honestidad del sistema estructural. Cada una de las dos recamaras cuenta con un baño y un vestidor, y sus relaciones con el exterior se encuentran mediadas por la celosía de granito. Hacia la parte posterior del terreno se encuentra un cuarto de televisión con mayor privacía, y  la recamara principal con su vestidor y baño, que se abren completamente hacia el patio central.

ESTRUCTURAL

La propuesta de la casa AC parte de una idea estructural donde precisamente los elementos estructurales forman los espacios principales de la casa, sin necesidad de contar con elementos adicionales, y donde los elementos decorativos son innecesarios.

La idea se organiza de manera, que en los espacios de la colindancia, se concentran los espacios de servicio, dejando los claros centrales para lograr una continuidad entre el interior y el exterior, permitiendo los claros estructurales de 8.70 m entre cada una de las cartelas.

Los claros centrales se libran por medio de un sistema de trabes y losas semi-prefabricadas, que permiten los claros principales. La estructura se encuentra expuesta por medio de los elementos de concreto armado aparente que se perciben en el perímetro del patio y que son reforzados por los cajillos de luz.

La estructura y modulación de los muros se encuentra diseñada a partir de los tableros de concreto armado de 1.20 x 2.44 de tal manera que estas dimensiones definen los espacios principales de la casa, las medidas del entrepiso y el entramado en muros. La estructura y su modulación se ve reflejada en el pavimento de granito y la cancelería de aluminio, logrando una continuidad espacial entre los elementos.


PROCESO CONSTRUCTIVO 

Por las condiciones del terreno, la cimentación de la casa, se encuentra conformada por pilas de concreto que se pueden  apreciar en los cortes del proyecto. Partiendo de una racionalización de la estructura, se decidió apoyar 8 cartelas sobre las pilas y conformar los espacios principales por una estructura de concreto que permitiera librar claros amplios para poder tener espacios con la máxima continuidad hacia los espacios exteriores.

La estructura como elemento principal de la casa se mantiene en un acabado aparente para conformar los espacios internos y lograr espacios de gran honestidad estructural y material. Los recubrimientos en muros son limitados y corresponden a los muros de la planta alta, que cierran el volumen de las recamaras, dado que la estructura de concreto se convierte en el principal elemento de la casa.

En el proceso constructivo se decidió por contar únicamente con dos tipos de pavimentos que permiten diferentes relaciones con los espacios internos de la casa. El piso de granito en los espacios de circulación y sociales está cortado en placas cuadradas de 1.20 por lo que en el despiece de las placas se generaron elementos excedentes verticales que fueron utilizados como los elementos de la celosía en la fachada del segundo nivel. De esta manera se minimizó el desperdicio y se realizó un uso racional de los materiales.

E
l tercer material que corresponde a los pisos de madera, puertas y muebles de carpintería, se optó por chapa de nogal en tiras de 15 cm por 2.44, haciéndolo coincidir en su despiece con los paneles del encofrado de concreto, con un zoclo de madera maciza que protege los elementos de madera.

Finalmente la cancelería de aluminio, colocada a cada 1.20, permite reforzar las relaciones entre el concreto y el granito, y se conforma como el cuarto material del proyecto. De la misma manera se decidió optar por configuraciones que permitieran expresar de manera honesta las relaciones entre materiales y la estructura de concreto.

This project is about light and materiality. The design of this apartment explores the raw and processed condition of a series of materials and their capacity to relate to different qualities of light within the space.

The intervention is composed of three objects and how they articulate different activities around them. The staircase formed by folded steel plates connects the three levels, a wooden lattice that filters different spatial conditions along the length of the apartment and a furniture block that divides the social space and contains the technological amenities of the apartment. 

The project explores material contrasts, filters, reflections, diffusion and absorption of light. The staircase formed by a 5/8" folded steel plate is finished in black matte paint that reflects a diffuse light which darkens as one descends to the private area. The underside of the staircase steps are covered by a inox steel clip-on that reflects light in different directions while the staircase acquires certain lightness in contrast to the robust structure. The entrance hall and staircase covered in black textured granite generate a sober space.

The entrance to the apartment paved in black granite plates with a leathery finish allow for a subtle reflection of the light entering the apartment from above. The steps of the staircase are covered in the same granite plates, as an excavated mass going downstairs and as floating sheets of stone going upstairs. Polished black granite is used in the bathroom and kitchen countertops forming another mirrored surface that contrasts with the raw materials of the lattice wall.

The lattice wall separates subtly the circulation spaces sieving the light and long views while allowing for to different interactions between spaces. At certain moments the wall is a panelled wooden surface, a lattice that filters light and allows for privacy while entering into the apartment. Next to the dining room the lattice wall lets filtered light from the staircase to permeate from above while in the vestibule it enters laterally. Finally in the space between the kitchen and the family room the lattice allows for an interaction between the spaces.The colour and texture of the tzalam wood planks filters the light, attenuating and colouring its luminosity. The exposed veins of the tzalam wood contrasts with the rest of the polished materials in the apartment. The furniture block that separates the social spaces is formed by corian covered cupboards which confers another sensorial quality through its mate polished surface, in contrast with the tzalam interior.  

The project proposes a sensorial experience that organises the everyday life of the inhabitants along this three elements.

departamento SJ PH
Pedregal, Ciudad de Mexico

El diseño del departamento SJ reorganiza los espacios originales para explorar calidades de luz en el espacio y la materialidad de algunos elementos arquitectónicos. 

La intervención está compuesta por tres objetos: La escalera de placa doblada que conecta los tres niveles; una celosía de madera, que filtra condiciones espaciales, a través de la longitud del departamento; un mueble, que divide el espacio social y contiene las amenidades tecnológicas del departamento. 
 
El proyecto explora contrastes materiales, filtros, reflejos, difusión y absorción de la luz. La escalera, formada por una placa de acero de 5/8” doblada, terminada en pintura automotiva negro mate, refleja una luz difusa que se obscurece conforme se desciende en el área privada. La parte inferior de los escalones, recubierta de un clip de acero inoxidable, refleja la luz en diferentes direcciones, al tiempo que permite a la escalera adquirir cierta ligereza en contraste con su estructura robusta. El vestíbulo y la escalera en granito negro con un acabado matizado generan un espacio sobrio.

La celosía separa sutilmente los espacios de circulación, tamizando la luz y las vistas lejanas. El color y textura de la piezas de tzalam macizo filtran la luz atenuando y coloreando su luminosidad. La veta expuesta del tzalam y el acabado con cera contrasta con los elementos pulidos del resto del departamento. El mueble que separa los espacios sociales está formado por gabinetes forrados de placas de un material acrílico de alta densidad que contrasta sensorialmente con el interior de tzalam al ofrecer una superficie pulida y mate, 

El proyecto propone una experiencia sensorial que organiza la vida diaria de los habitantes en torno a estos tres elementos.

CG-117 

17 Units Building

CG-117 Building is structured by diagonal shafts that contain three staircases by which you enter to two apartments in each of the landings. The shafts placed perpendicularly to the front of the site allow for the apartments, organized transversally, to have different relationships, views and natural ventilation.

Each level alternates its organization while the service block of bathrooms and kitchen maintain the same position. In this way the apartments from the first floor have a garden towards the back of the site while the private areas are placed towards the façade of the building. The apartments in the second floor have a balcony with a planter-bench-railing that relates to the social areas in the interior of the apartment, which in this level alternate towards the façade of the building. In the third level the social spaces are placed in the back of the plot from which you can access a roof garden, generating a space with a higher volume and relationship to the outside.

The organization of the central block and open kitchen generates flexibility in the internal distribution of the apartments, allowing for a wide variety of internal configurations. Some having three or two bedrooms expanding the social areas of each of the seventeen 1´020 sqft flats.

The building is constructed with structural walls of reinforced and exposed concrete with semi-prefabricated floors that allow for wide spaces in all the length of the apartments. Water and electrical networks are concentrated in clearly defined cores.

edificio CG-117 
Azcapotzalco, Ciudad de México

El edificio CG-117 está diseñado a partir de tres núcleos de escaleras por los cuales se accede a dos departamentos en cada descanso. Los núcleos perpendiculares al frente del terreno permiten que los departamentos, organizados transversalmente, cuenten con diferentes relaciones, vistas y ventilación natural.

Cada nivel se alterna en su organización mientras que los núcleos de baños y cocinas se mantienen en la misma posición. De esta manera los departamentos del primer nivel tienen un jardín en la parte posterior con las áreas privadas hacia el frente del terreno. Los departamentos del segundo nivel tienen un balcón con una jardinera-banca-barandal que se relaciona con las áreas sociales en el interior del departamento, que en este nivel, se encuentran hacia la fachada principal. En el tercer nivel los espacios sociales se encuentran en la parte trasera del terreno, desde los cuales se accede a una azotea útil, generando un espacio con un mayor volumen y relación con el exterior.

La organización del núcleo central y la cocina abierta generan una gran flexibilidad en la distribución interna de los departamentos, ya que permiten contar con diferentes configuraciones de tres o dos recamaras ampliando los espacios sociales de cada uno de los 17 departamentos de 95 m2.

El edificio está construido con muros de carga de concreto aparente con losas de semi-prefabricados que permiten tener claros abiertos en toda la longitud de los departamentos. Las instalaciones del edificio se encuentran concentradas en núcleos claramente definidos.

Edificio V-196
Cuauhtémoc, Ciudad de México

El edificio VI-196 conforma una parte importante de una manzana urbana ubicada en uno de los accesos a la colonia Cuauhtemoc. Siendo un terreno con un largo frente de 85 m hacia una vialidad con alto flujo vehicular imponía diferentes condicionantes al proyecto además de las restricciones posteriores, frontales y de altura para el edificio. 

La forma atípica del terreno permitió localizar la rampa helicoidal para los estacionamientos y localizar el núcleo de circulaciones verticales, generando una organización del proyecto a lo largo del terreno con un pasillo central y departamentos hacia cada lado. 

El proyecto cuenta con departamentos de 88 m2 hacia la vialidad  y de 70 m2 en la parte posterior. La esquina curva y la parte central del proyecto tiene departamentos atípicos algunos de 3 recamaras con 105 y 135 m2  y otros de dos niveles. Aun cuando los departamentos cuentan con diferentes áreas y configuraciones, el núcleo interno de servicios se mantiene regular independientemente de las variaciones. De esta manera se concentran núcleos de instalaciones verticales para los departamentos con acceso desde los pasillos de cada nivel.

La fachada principal está conformada por terrazas definidas por cartelas de concreto que ofrecen privacía de las vistas externas y laterales con los vecinos. De la misma manera una losa de concreto  forma un balcón que en cada nivel tiene variaciones en su inclinación generando alabeos en una estructura que al mismo tiempo mantiene organización y expresividad de las condiciones particulares de la esquina. El proyecto hace referencias a elementos contextuales modernos y brutalistas de la ciudad de México.
